To Whom It May Concern:
Iowa is very flooded at the moment. There’s only one way to cross the cedar river. Which is past any record of flooding. Beyond the 500 year flood stage, which is actually a percentage not a this flood only happens every 500 years sort of thing. Everything I own including my apt and my new townhouse is perfectly dry. Though my apt has a lake front view now (pictures soon to follow)
Yesterday I helped clean out a coworkers basement so I left early to lend a hand. We stripped his newly finished basement and sandbagged all around his house. My entire software team, and most of the managers in my dept joined in. Talk about a team building experience. Afterwards I got stuck on the west side of the river and had to wait several hours until Beth could come pick me up (I had no car). Its quite a site everywhere you look. Fortunately Iowa is supposed to have a dry spell for the next week.
Currently I am planning a move on Saturday to my new place. I hope it still works out, unfortunately my U-haul is on the other side of the river. Cell phones for the most part aren’t working so email is my only means of communication.
I think that’s all I have for anyone else stuck in the flooding best of luck!

Good to hear, err… read you’re high and dry. Sounds like a good time to go fishing.

You could have a “wet city” party (taking advantage of an alternate definition of “wet” to mean “with alcohol”)

I’m about 20 feet from the water now but atleast 15 feet up. Since I’m not supposed to drink the water. I’m drinking my beer 🙂

Just saw Cedar Rapids on CNN, just a little bit of water there. Glad you are staying drying.

How close is the water to your new townhouse?
