The trip to Monte Verde was pretty uneventful… Well sort of got a flat tire on the bus. No fun but quick 10 minute change and we were rocking. Got to Monte Verde after a very rocky road checked in to the hotel and explored a bit. Got some ¨Typical¨food aka what the natives would probably eat. Very diner like. Then we did a Tour of a coffee plantation. Not much of a coffee fan, but did learn that Coffee Beans come from berries. Oh also saw a sloth and learned that an after coffee tree will produce about 1000$ but the farmers don´t get much of this. Long journey from Costa Rica to an Iowa Starbucks. (Assuming they got such awesome beans) Did have my first ever straight cup of coffee, have a feeling its all down hill from here. I mean how are you going to top beans freshly made at a central American plantation.
After the coffee we did a night tour of Monte Verde, didn´t see many animals. Several very friendly giant squirrels, yes I know not sure on the technical name 😛 Did see a very scary tarantula, where I then proceeded to regale everyone about the time I ate one lol, well a leg, still counts. Otherwise just a bunch of hiking around in the dark with very beautiful stars and lots of crickets and angry looking ants.
Dinner we did a great but pricey sushi place. I got some very pretty salmon, and some sword fish. As well as a Japanese beer. Costa Rica everywhere costs like America, but they also have very clean and organized facilities, and very good cosmopolitan feel everywhere I go.
Next day hit up the cloud forest for a day hike. Somewhat boring. I mean animals are a bit shy and how interesting are trees? Lots of pretty pictures though. The tour guide did claim they had native plants that cured most cancers including lukemia, and one that would cure aids. Go figure. The doctor in our group was a bit skeptical lol.
After the mildly boring tour, we did Zip Lining. Omg so awesome! We did 13 lines, I usually jumped first. It was such a rush, and the scenery is amazing when you are dangling by a cable over nothing. We did one where it was super long and I got lost in the fog. Aka couldn´t see anything and just sort of existed on a line while traveling several kilometers an hour. Yes I know I´ve switched to metric system for this trip, deal with it. The end of zip lining had this huge Tarzan swing where I almost shit my self. Fantastic lol. I got a video, I wonder if I can post it somehow. After this the night/day was rather tame. Kicked back ate some food and passed out in preparation for Arenal.
