Today while reading one of Teddy’s favorite books (probably) “The Busy Busy Construction Site”, he particularly loves when I point out the construction equipment and say, “dump truck” or “pipe layer” or “bulldozer”. Well on one of these occasions I happened to say “Foo” and Teddy said… “No daddy, Bar” and I realized I had misread the text under the picture of the equipment. There’s nothing like being corrected by an illiterate two-year-old about text in a book. Honestly, I was just so elated, I’m not sure if there’s a milestone here but just having my son having the confidence to be (accurately) “No daddy you’re wrong” fills me with joy.
It does really feel like Teddy has been making huge leaps developmentally in the last few months. For example, he’s starting to play with other kids at the park. I met the daughter (Kate) of the owner of Husky Deli. She had brought her three kids, 3,5,7 to our park, and Teddy was just having a blast gong on the marry go round with them and trying to climb. They surrounded him and made him their new best friend. It was just the most awesome adorable thing I had ever seen. Also, it seems like in the past week Teddy’s diet has just exploded, he ate chicken nuggets! I think this was a first. He’s eating actual bread; I gave him some Rosemary bread from the Thrift and he devoured it. Kept saying “Rosemary Bread, please” (Obviously with a cute toddler voice) I wonder if this means I can finally start to include him in actual dinner.
Ella, not to be outdone, is rolling like a stone. We put her down at X, we turn around, and now she’s at Y. I swear if I watch her, she never leaves her spot, but here we are. It’s great! The faster she can move, the faster she has agency, and the faster she can play with her brother, which I can tell he desperately wants to engage with her more. Also, Ella has progressed to solids. Not as her primary source of food, but just the joys of experimenting and trying them. She still smiles constantly and always seems to want to party. Maybe just a bit more sleep Ella? Its fun watching them grow change. We’ve started reading a book called “Goodnight, Whispers” at bedtime, we got it at the library, but I love it so much that I picked up a permanent copy. Kate HATES it. Basically, it’s the story of a dad whispering loving things to his daughter every night after she falls asleep. I literally started tearing up reading it.
