Teddy and I went on a solo adventure! And what a solo adventure it was! I suppose its really not solo since there was two of us. It was a Duo Adventure!!! Guys Trip! Kate and Ella stayed behind and Teddy and I hopped on a plane to NY City… State. That’s right the Big not quite upstate New York to visit Teddy’s Aunt Victoria for a longish weekend.
Now for Teddy this was huge, technically second time on a plane (first being Passover when he was was one) but he’s old enough for his long term memory to kick in. So maybe just maybe he’ll remember our double six hour flight coast to coast together. When he’s older we may be to do the Ocean to Ocean challenge. Where we touch the Pacific (easy). The Sound counts right? And then touch the Atlantic in the same day. Alas I am getting a bit ahead of myself.
Plane right was pretty easy. I got a special seat belt for Teddy and got to play with a Tablet for the first time. To be honest with you after five hours of Tablet time I really questioned what value it actually brings outside a plane. We have TV already, and all the games did were make him WWWAAAYYY over stimulated. Beyond that lots of truck time, and Teddy did surprisingly well the Alaska Airlines Cheese tray always a classic. Return flight was pretty similar experience except added about 10x the exhaustion for me, and Teddy’s new passion Leelo and Stich… thank you effective Disney advertising.
The Trip to New York was pretty chill. Weather was next level bad so most of it was spent hanging out at Aunt Victorias house. I took Teddy to see Sienna and Dillon perform but honestly he did pretty well. Sat through most of it and only got a bit chatty. Lots of park time and went to the library to get books. Which lets be honest is all Teddy really wants, and besides who wouldn’t take that over Tablet.
Sienna and Dillon also played a lot with Teddy. Though I can tell that as Sienna has gotten a bit older, Teddy is wearing her out and not the other way around. Maybe Teenagers are just like cats, cause man those kids could sleep anywhere at anytime. Dillon also introduced Teddy to football and basketball. Playing basketball was especially great since Teddy has that at the YMCA starting in June.
One huge bummer of the trip is I became incredibly ill on my second day. I just developed a terrible cough and since I was sharing a room with Teddy never got a good night sleep because I couldn’t properly rest. Teddy did love sharing a room. I pre-emptively bought him a spaceship Tent for his bed and he absolutely lost his mind for this. It was such a brilliant move that it was never hard to get him to go to bed. Staying in bed (especially in the morning) was a different challenge. The last night I was there I did take some Nyquil to sleep and around 6:45am Teddy called out “Daddy where are you” and like an idiot I said “What do you want” he then proceeds to crawl out of his tent climb in my bed and continuously hit and kick me saying “Daddy I want to get up now” For the next hour. I will also love my son, but I could have done with a little bit of space at this point. No amount of Lego movie got him to leave me alone.
Anywho regardless I hope this kind of adventure made Teddy’s brain grow like crazy and kind of embed a sense of how awesome it is to Travel, which we will definitely apply later when the kids are older. Though sadly for Ella I feel like I learn a life lesson about how hard it is to Travel with her older sibling first and it makes me want to hold off with her till I know she’s a bit older and functional. Maybe someone who won’t kick me when they want to get up. A man can dream.
