Ok so Teddy did have his first surgery, let’s hope it was his last. Considering I’ve never had surgery this seems very possible. Yesterday, Teddy had a cyst removed from the inside of his cheek. Now this was a very minor but annoying thing he’s had in his mouth since his first birthday. We were originally scheduled to have it removed just prior to Ella being bored, but the idea of having our 18m son go in for surgery the same month our second child was due may have been a bit too much stress for Kate. Admittedly, as this operation got closer my anxiety also kicked in, so 18m Teddy may have also been a bit too much. The thing about oral surgery for a three-year-old is they can’t stay still. So, the real only path is full sedation. So, it really wasn’t the operation that was terrifying, it was the anesthesia. Lucky for us A) We have incredibly good health insurance and B) Live in a place with incredibly good doctors.
So, we drove our butts over to Seattle Children’s in Bellevue. Teddy was running around exploring in the waiting room, till they finally let us into an exam room. They walked us through the procedure. It was truly a minor operation, but Teddy and Ella are like the most important things in the world to me, and ANYTHING that jeopardizes their wellbeing causes too much stress. Luckily everyone was kind, they sedated Teddy, we left the room before he got too weird, it’s not the kind of thing you want to remember, and we waited. It felt like forever but really it was about 20 minutes. The doctor came to let us know everything was A-OK, and about 30 minutes later we went and hung out with a sleeping teddy.
The first thing he did after waking up was ask if we could go downstairs lol. (He’d been asking to take the stairs since we got to the hospital) So we of course obliged, we looked at some glass art and took our very unsteady son home. Ella of course had a great time with her grandma. So, everything was ok. Today Teddy is back to his old self, well besides lots of pain meds and a sore mouth, but thankfully our special little guy is causing chaos, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
