Ok after a lot of thinking here’s what I’ve come up with:
Gratitude Journal. This goal is very achievable. I consider this a reminder goal; it doesn’t take much time to accomplish each day I just need to remember to do it. I’ve tried this is the past and I like the idea, but I just never could be consistent. I know showing gratitude everyday is important for your mental health as well. Now in the Past Kate and I had a gratitude jar which was cool, this round I’ll be keeping a dedicated journal. The reason for this is “look back” reasons. The jar was cool in you could see it build up, but I couldn’t casually look back. With a journal, if this truly becomes a long-term goal, maybe I’ll end up with several notebooks, and it’ll be something cool I can easily page through over time. I am going to write these by hand over what I do here, because a) the content will be much smaller, and b) lets be honest handwriting just has a greater mental impact. Difficulty: Easy, Impact: Mental Health
New Music: On the daily, I need to at least listen to one new song I’ve never heard before. Again, pretty easy and quick, just need to remember to do it. I find I get into a bit of a rut with music, and I think it would be fun to just expand and discover new music. I am not going to rely on Spotify algorithms here, thanks “Ghost” artists. Instead, I am going to try to hunt down curated playlists that are constantly updated by people who are in the know. I’m looking at you KEXP. The end of this goal will hopefully result in just an increased engagement in an important ever evolving art. Difficulty: Easy, Impact: Cultural Knowledge
Breakfast Protein: I am terrible at eating a proper breakfast and I think I eat poorly all day as a result. So, the new goal, get at least 10g (though maybe I’ll update this to 15-20g) of protein every day at breakfast. Now this goal is far harder than the others. It requires planning in advance, aka do I have the right meal prep or groceries on hand. It also requires me to take the time to eat, which some mornings I’m in a panic mode getting to work and don’t actually eat anything. Hopefully in the long term this will help my overall health by moving from unhealthy snacking to meaningful more routines. Difficulty: Medium, Impact: Physical Health.
There you have it, three new goals I’m going to focus on. Maybe I need to take a screen shot of my goal page at the end of the year as some form of accountability. Some of these goals will take a second to start because I need to wait for supplies to get here, etc, but I am pretty excited!
