Ok technically I am writing this in January 2022… but I am going to lie and change its date to be the day I actually went to this concert. I feel a compulsive need to mention this concert due to the overwhelming level of how cool it truly was. See Sept 2021 Archived pictures. (PS future self, please make sure to properly archive all your pictures in something besides OneDrive) [Oh god this totally means you’re not going to do it now] (Look, I don’t know… we all got things going on…) [Fuuuccckkk]
So anyway… Green Day! Yayyy I love Green Day this is the 4th time I’ve seen them live. First when I was in High School for the Warning tour, then 8ish years later with a wonderful gift from my Ex Beth in Omaha. What a sad thing to not go to with her :(. This wonderful gift was occurring in our downward spiral of a relationship neither of us knew how to end, well she did… eventually. Hmmm I wonder if I blogged about it… Oh Then in I dunno 2017? With Kate aka my wife aka your mom. I say your mom as both an insult to a random stranger reading this, and your mom referencing your actual mom, because who would read this but my actual children? You should ask her about the first time she had to use a porta potty. It was at the end of the night, at a concert, and we had been stuck in the parking lot for 2ish hours.
So fast forward to 2021 to a show I was supposed to see in 2020 but there was this thing called COVID. To my future readers. COVID was this thing that fucked up all your plans and killed everyone’s Grand Parents. So, in October 2019 I was so excited when they announced the Hella Mega Tour. It had Frikkin Weezer, Fallout Boy, and *drum roll* Green Day. Holy shit I must go. I discovered if you had an Amex, you could buy early tickets. Being my unethical self, I used my corporate Amex to cut in line and get some kick ass front, ok 2nd row (not pit) tickets for the show. Don’t worry everyone I paid off my Amex with my own dollars. Then all I had to do was play the waiting game.
March rolls around and then COVID. Well fuck, ok just checked shows still on. June happens… fuck its moved out a year. I guess the world is truly mad. Then at some point it got moved AGAIN this time to Labor Day weekend of 2021. So not too bad. Everyone who was coming with me originally bailed. Ok let’s be honest it was Kate and Barret+1. But honestly these seats were primo so Kiepfer, Hexar, and Craig all jumped on it and came with.
I am just going to go out there and say it but just like every Green Day show, it kicked all kinds of ass. My throat was gone by the end of the night. They only got two hours! Typically, they get three. They did bring some poor kid on stage who bombed out and had to be replaced with a ringer, but hey at least I know that isn’t staged anymore. The show had fireworks, an entire crowd singing Bohemian Rapsody, and a very dirty rabbit costume running around on stage. I frikkin love it. Oh, and Rasputin you are a whopping 6 weeks existing at this point, so you were a bit young for the show. But I hope we’ll see Green Day I guess in their 60s? Or maybe we’ll find an equally cool band we can both like and rock out too. How will you feel about The Struts? Look just let the band have actual instruments and I can probably be convinced.
