Ok so in September of 2002 I took out my first student loan. When I graduated in May of 2006 I had over 110k in debt from going to Rose-Hulman. My average payment was about a grand each month. Which was really painful when I was making 2400$ a month. So fast forward uh 8 years and now I have exactly 0 student loans. So what should I do now that I don’t have to spend a thousand dollars a month to Citibank student loans!? I should definitely throw an EPIC party!!!
So there were a lot of ideas thrown around renting a bar? Maybe a cabin in the woods… Final conclusion I should get a party bus. Fun fact when you tell everyone you are getting a party bus, you end up having so many people you need two party buses. Next part I needed a theme. This was fortunately easy. I was turning 31 and my birthday is the 31st so let’s make it gold theme since it was my golden birthday.
I planned like crazy, probably drove my friend Ashley nuts with my constant discussion. It turned out epic. Everyone was dressed in gold. I had about 50 people show up. Managed to cram everyone in to my apartment. My outfit was adorned in a gold glittering sport-coat, with a gold tie, a crown, and a scepter. Everyone else had amazing costumes, Leanne was in a spandex superhero costume. My friend Gazelle Adam had this ridiculous gold face paint. The night was filled with Gold Schlagger and Miller’s very best Champagne of Beers.
We boarded the buses and rocked out all the way to the Fremont Troll. Nothing like belting out “I would walk 500 miles” with all of your friends. Once we were at the troll I may have spray painted a calf piñata gold (ten commandments style) and then filled it with gold wrapped chocolate and magnum condoms since you know they were gold… I ended up screaming so much at this stop that I completely wrecked my voice.
After 30 minutes we headed to Hilliards and drank mediocre beer for a while. The fun part was everyone kept asking about the craziness of the gold theme. After that we went to Kerry Park and took in one of the best views of Seattle. Then we headed to Dick’s in Queen Anne and got Cheeseburgers and Milk Shakes. It was such a fun time! We concluded the night at Q bar. Well… we would have if I hadn’t gotten “car sick” and threw up everything inside of me. So much pink, stupid strawberry milkshakes. So Ashley like a champ escorted me home and made sure I didn’t die on the way.
The party turned out awesome. 10/10 would do it again. Next year I kind of want to get a boat and have a pirate theme. Something about drinking mead and yelling yarrr a lot can’t be beat.
