After watching “How I Met Your Mother” for several years I really want this blog post to be intricate, filled with sweet anecdotes and crazy stories. If only somehow I could get Neil Patrick Harrison to make an appearance… Oh well instead you just get my happy go lucky retelling of a great night at a museum.
So as everyone knows my Birthday is NYE, so its the one time of year I really make a deliberate attempt to go out and have an awesome time. Unfortunately I was now living somewhere completely foreign and new to me. All my Iowa friends were 2000 miles away and I was feeling a bit homesick. Fortunately I had one awesome friend named Byrne who really wanted to party. My lil bro Bander had suggested a party at EMP (a museum in Seattle) but I thought it was too expensive and would have rather done something easy and low key. So nothing was really planned. I mentioned EMP to my roomie and she went on and on about how awesome it was and how her friend Ried was going. This peeked my interest but I really wanted one of my “bros” to come with.
In arrives Byrne on a white horse. He wanted to go out and pushed for EMP, I agreed and all we had to do was wait for his friends to give the ok. The next day (the 28th) I get a text from Byrne that I should go buy tickets. I make it to work and see that jacked the tickets up to a 100$… holy shit! I wasn’t sure if it was worth a hundred bucks to go to a party where I would be snubbed by the ladies all night. Eventually my brain stopped caring and I bought the tickets to not leave Byrne hanging. About two hours later I get a mildly panic’d text asking if I had bought my ticket, sure enough they had sold out two ours after I got mine. I was mildly freaked out they oversold and were going to cancel my purchase.
Fortunately I saw a nice pricey charge to my credit card and assumed the best. Sunday I made an emergency Nordstroms visit where I bought some overpriced (or under priced depending on perspective) Allen Edmond shoes. I also had a very nice salesman pick out an extremely awesome outfit to wear for my big night. 160$ for designer jeans (to this day only wore once) still kills me a bit. I even had to get them tailored while I was at the mall. Nordstrom apparently only sells pants with one size length.
New Years Eve finally arrives. I’m somewhat cranky about having to work on my birthday but somehow make do. Though I will admit I may have only put in a half day (shhhh don’t tell anyone) I get home and my awesome roomie put up bright pink streamers in front of my door and got me a delicious cupcake. I great way to start off the night. I take a nice nap wake up and get my game face on. Byrne picks me up and we hit up this awesome party at EMP.
Well first there was a very lame pre party singles thing at some near by restaurant. We skipped that pretty quick and wound up at a tiny house party of Byrne friends. Had some weird vodka infused lemon juice and had a fun time. Honestly nothing eventful, then the main show arrived.
We made our way to EMP and it was awesome! There were like five different dance floors. It was crowded but somehow I stumbled upon Ried and Alessa. We chatted for a while and then a song I absolutely loved started playing. It might have been thriftshop but I can’t remember… Anyway I saw this girl get her groove on at the front of the dance floor with some creepy dude grinding up. So did my sneak move and got my dance on. She grinded the shit out of me and turned around and just started making out with me. It was mildly hot, but also awkward. She tasted more like beer than cute, so when the song ended we went our separate ways. After this I disappeared in to the crowd. I’m such a wandering when I’ve been drinking. Though I sobered up quick due to the ridiculous lines at the bars. Seriously how can a guy get drunk if it takes 30 minutes to get a beer. I spent the next hour wandering around looking at the classy yet very slutty looking girls getting their groove on. I’m terrible at the approach so I acted as more of people watcher.
Eventually I spotted Ried again and told him lets go find him a cute girl. We wandered up to the top floor and I spotted this very cute blonde girl in a blue purple dress dressing with this super young dude who looked like he was in High school So I yelled “Hey this is my friend Ried! He needs a Girlfriend are any of you single?” The cute girl in the blue purple dress yelled back “I’m single! This is just my friends brother!” I looked back at Ried, looked at the girl, looked back at Ried, and started dancing with her 🙂 She yelled “Hi I’m Brittni!” I responded in kind, and we danced the night away.
She loved the fact that I did amazing back bends from yoga and took full advantage of this all night. We rocked for what felt like hours. Her friends kept stealing her away to make sure I was hope to no good. Cue nefarious laugh… mwhahaha. Actually (as always) I tried my best to behave. I even held her coat and did my best not sweat all over it lol. Then Brittni’s friend bought her an overly strong rum and coke, which after futile attempts to hand off to others, I downed. It burned and made me sad, but the cute girl made it worthwhile.
Then midnight happened, and she dived bombed in to me. Thankfully I had been working out so when this gorgeous buck ten blondie jumped, I caught her. Probably the best midnight kiss of my life. We dance, we swayed, we made out for the next hour. Eventually we went on the hunt for her friends, which was well timed cause I was about to pass out from dehydration. We went down stairs shared perhaps the smallest dixy cup of water at EMP. Where I proudly proclaimed “it was the best water ever!” Eventually we wandered to the museum part of the museum with her friends. We listened to some Jimmi Hendricks, we took a picture, and she left my arms for the night.
10 Minutes later I got this text…
“Hey! Sorry I had to bail on you.. but thanks for the NYE kiss! :)”
It took all my will power not ask her out on the spot. Fortunately for me we talked the next day and we’ve been virtually inseparable ever since 😀
