So we wake up in San Jose, not a normal human being time, but at 6am when unbeknowst to us the train drives 10 feet past our very unsound proof room. Greg and I slept on and off for several hours. Perpetually being awoken but people walking on the street and that lovely train.
Eventually we got up and decided to tour San Jose since none of our tour mates were here yet. We really didn´t do much, saving it for the tour. Did notice way too many fast food restaraunts. Finally found a local place where we struggled our way through ordering. Got offered bud (not the beer) from an expat. He was definitely tripping. Then wondered our way back to the hotel. We had a ton of time to kill so we siesta´d and then went to a bar and drank all three kinds of Bavaria beer that had, not bad. Way better than Asia. We then met up with out tour group, who proceded to go to dinner at the exact place we just went to for beer.
This is where we learned how expensive Costa Rica really is. we got a piture of Sangria for 30$ I mean seriously. Way more than in the states. Didn´t even get a buzz damnit.
Next day did a mini tour of the city. Afterwards Greg and I checked out a gold museum (lame), The National Theatre (awesome, with very affordable restaraunt), and the national museum, which was an old fort untill the army was disbanded. Decent museum, but better for the views. Learned to always carry my student ID card, got me lots of discounts. That night hit up a pretty solid Italian restaraunt, had a great mocha and fettucini alfredo. After that called it a night in preperation for our 5am exit to Monte Verde.
One thing to note, San Jose is kind of lame, not much to do. Pricey. It does have several cool little parks scattered everywhere. Felt fairly safe and people respect the road, which is such an opposite of Vietnam. I wouldn´t recommend more than a day or two in San Jose.
