Before I leave for my trip I really wanted to write about something non-trip related. So here goes. I had one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long while yesterday. After much hesitation I agreed to volunteer at this after school Christmas function for under privileged children. The hesitation wasn’t because I don’t like under privileged children but because I was leaving for this huge trip and I needed to get shit done, so no thinking I am a cold heartless bastard. So anyway I signed and me and a few other Brothers met up with a couple IU med students and gave a helping hand.
I got assigned to hang out with this kid named Michael, he was only in the 1st grade, but he was really cool and fun to chill with all afternoon. We made some reeves with tissue papers, and then we made some Christmas cards for his grandparents. I somehow became his glue bitch, so it goes. After this me and a group of about 10 kids go to the gym and play this really dumb game where you throw paper snowballs in to a basket. Needless to say this quickly degenerated in to a massive paper snowball fight of me against everyone else. Would you expect any less, I have the same attention span of all the elementary school kids.
So I spent the next half hour spring circles around the gym having this mob of first graders trying to tackle me. I eventually gave up and laid down hoping they would leave me in peace. Unfortunately I was so wrong; they all dog piled on top of me. Now I’m going out on a limb here and saying I am stronger than 2 first graders combined, but when 8 of them all jumped on me I swear to god I couldn’t move. It was like getting attack by a tribe of pygmies. So anyway tons of fun, all the lil kids in my group made me promise I would come back next time. My only complaint is I am convinced those kids gave me a cold, because right now I am sitting here with a band of nomads farming the back of my throat, and a powerful waterfall of mucus coming out of every orifice of my body. Isn’t that such a pretty picture 🙂
