Well break is about done and I felt like an update would be a nice way to conclude it. I spent a large part of break delving in to my religious side. It started with me reading two books by Dan Brown, “Demons and Angels” and “The Da Vinci Code”. Both were excellent books that dealt with extremely religious context. Though it wasn’t the kind that tries to convert you or show you your ideologies are wrong, instead it makes you think about your core beliefs by pointing about blatant facts that are often over looked. Why curious point I had never realized was that Christ’s divinity (is he godly) was actually voted on by a group set up by emperor Constantine in the 300 A.D. ish era. It seems odd that a religion’s key point wasn’t even decided until 300 years after the fact. All of this reading on Christianity inspired me to go to church. I actually sat through a catholic Easter Sunday. On a side note I had no Idea that I wasn’t supposed to take communion if I wasn’t Catholic, go figure.
A lot of this made me think what I would want to put my kids through when they were growing up. At church I saw all these little kids listening to the priest, who was saying some pretty hardcore things. Like if you don’t follow the way of the Vatican your evil. I definitely don’t want this type of brainwashing to effect my kids, I’m sure that this surfaces in all religions too. So I decided the best way to do it is to expose them to all sorts of religion growing up, but not until they are of an age when they would understand the concept of god, and the history that these many religions have had. It just doesn’t seem fair to decide your child’s religion for them. Hopefully I can provide the moral grounding for them growing up independent of the church. Well that’s my rant for the night, latez all!
